If you are starting to experiment with decorative stitches, this canvas is perfect for you. When trying out decorative stitches for the first time, I always recommend practicing them in larger areas. A larger space gives the pattern room to develop, making it easier to understand how it should look before you attempt compensation i.e. adjusting a decorative stitch so it fits neatly within the decorative element. 

Below I’ve shared my exact needlepoint threads and stitch choices I used to bring my Colorado stamp canvas to life. I’ll walk through the fibers I selected for the mountains, sky, skier, lettering, and border, along with the decorative needlepoint stitches that helped add movement and dimension while still keeping the design clean and easy to read. 

I’ve also provided alternative thread options so you can mix and match to make this design your own. While I've chosen my skier's skin tone to match my husband's (who this canvas was designed for!), I've also provided some ideas for medium to darker skin tones too.
